What is Calcium Silicon?

Calcium Silicon alloy is a composite alloy composed of silicon, calcium and iron, which is an ideal composite Oxygen scavenger and desulfurizer. It is widely used in the production of high-quality steel, low-carbon steel, stainless steel and other steel grades, as well as special alloys such as nickel based alloys and titanium based alloys; And suitable as a heating agent for the converter steelmaking workshop; It can also be used as an inoculant for cast iron and an additive in the production of ductile iron. The main producing areas of Calcium Silicon are Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, and other provinces.

Calcium Silicon alloy is a product made from silica, limestone (or lime) as raw materials, using carbon reducing agents in a submerged arc furnace through high-temperature reduction and other methods. Due to the strong affinity between calcium and oxygen, sulfur, hydrogen, nitrogen, and carbon in molten steel, silicon-calcium alloys are mainly used for deoxygenation, degassing, and sulfur fixation in molten steel. After adding molten steel, a strong exothermic effect is generated, which turns into calcium vapor in the molten steel, causing stirring effect on the molten steel and benefiting the floating of non-metallic inclusions. After deoxidation, Calcium Silicon alloy produces non-metallic inclusions with larger particles that are easy to float, and also changes the shape and properties of non-metallic inclusions. Therefore, Calcium Silicon alloy is used to produce clean steel, high-quality steel with low oxygen and sulfur content, and special performance steel with extremely low oxygen and sulfur content. The addition of Calcium Silicon alloy can eliminate the problems such as the nodulation of steel with aluminum as the final Oxygen scavenger in the ladle nozzle, and the clogging of the tundish nozzle in continuous casting.
